Winning third place and $2,000 on America’s Funniest Videos was awesome! Little did I know when I was filming my on-line course last January on stress management that I would create my own stress. If you look at one of my earlier blogs, I posted the blooper video with the “money” and fire. That was the video that won.
The filming experience was fun to do and intriguing to see how it was all set up. We filmed it March 16, so of course, I’ve had my lips sealed about the outcome for quite a while. They sent the camera and lights, and we spent a few days picking out the best place to film, got approval for outfits, and did hours of sound and light checks. The tech crew was very nice and fun to work with.
Finally the filming day arrived. However, just a few moments before the show was about to begin, Whitney, our tech man, asked me to tilt the camera down a quarter of an inch. When I did that, the camera broke off. My husband and I looked at each other in shock. I ran to the next room to get duct tape. While we were duct taping the camera to the tripod, Whitney commented that it could be a funny video for America’s Funniest Videos! LOL!! After all the tech work – duct tape!
The show began and to our surprise, a stink bug flew into the room and crashed right into my husband’s forehead. We weren’t on the screen yet, but we watched the stink bug fly around the room for the rest of the taping. Then, our neighbors were getting new gravel for their driveway and we heard the skid loader going “Beep, beep, beep,” for the next hour as well. It sounded like it was in the room with us. I looked at my husband and said, “Of all times!”
Despite everything, it was a very fun experience and I’ve already had people stop me on the street and say, “Don’t play with fire!” I would say, I’m thankful I did not get hurt and my house did not burn down. I’m also thankful we got through the experience of the taping itself!
