As a motivational speaker who teaches organizations how to create energized workplace cultures, I could not stop watching the Savannah Bananas team members. Their energy was contagious!

The players danced. The coaches participated. The entertainers connected with the audience. Jesse Cole, wearing his signature yellow tuxedo, was visible and involved.

You could feel the energy spreading throughout Kinnick Stadium.

That is what happens inside a workplace, too. Energy moves from person to person.

Enthusiasm spreads, but unfortunately, negativity spreads as well. One disengaged employee can change the atmosphere of a room. One energized employee can do the same thing in a positive direction.

We sometimes believe culture must begin in the executive office. Leadership certainly plays an important role, but every employee contributes to workplace culture.

Every person brings something into the workplace each day:

• An attitude

• A tone of voice

• A level of effort

• A response to challenges

• A willingness to encourage others

  
  

You do not need a yellow tuxedo, choreographed dance, or stadium filled with people to create energy.

You can create it by greeting people warmly, bringing solutions instead of complaints, celebrating progress, and helping the people around you have a better day. It only takes one person to begin changing the atmosphere.

Why couldn’t that person be you?
